• The core of the 1281 is a precisely machined square milled from cast and ground tool plate…the most stable aluminum in the world. The stability of the material and the methods we use to machine the core allow us to hold tolerance to ±.0085°…that’s within one thousandth of an inch at the far end of the 12-inch blade. To this highly accurate core, we add cheeks to make the base thicker. The combination of the one-piece core with the precision-pinned cheeks can’t be matched by squares made with a blade riveted to a separate beam.
• The cheeks are narrower than the core by a quarter-inch, forming a shoulder not found in traditional square designs. The shoulder allows the square to rest on the edge of a board without you holding on. Once you’ve used a Woodpeckers square with the shoulder, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
• The hands-free design, the wide stable base for vertical use and the heft and balance of the 1281 combine to make the tool a joy to use, as well as deadly accurate. But we didn’t stop with just a great square, we laser engrave scales on both sides of the blade (inch or metric, your choice) to an accuracy of ±.004" total accumulated error over the entire length of the scale.
